According to Islam, what should I do for my now-dead homosexual father?

1. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your father.

You said he prayed 5 times a day.

It is Allah who has chosen who will pray to Him and who will not pray to Him.

There is no doubt your father died as a Muslim if he did good deeds in his life and indeed you are proof of one of his good deeds that he has left in this world.

Quran 6:158 Verse 6:158 "... belief in it (Allah and the Day of Resurrection and Judgement) shall not help any soul .... if in belief (he or she) did not earn good (by doing righteous deeds in their life). ...."

Quran 41:8 Verse 41:8 "For those who believe and do good deeds, for them is an everlasting reward (in Paradise Jannah)."

.

2. Sects.

You said you are looking at the views of different sects. That is good.

In the Quran Allah says do not divide your religion into sects so take what agrees with the Quran that you might find in each sect and leave behind what does not agree with the Quran that you might find in every sect.

Quran 6:159 Verse 6:159 Those who divide their religion and become sects (become proud of their own sect above all others in Judaism and Christianity and in Islam) so you should not be like them in anything (of pride like that). Their affair is with Allah (in the hereafter) then He (Allah) shall tell them of what they used to do (when they divided their religion and became proud of their own sect above all others).

Quran 30:32 Verse 30:32 – (and do not be one) of those who divide their religion and become sects that rejoice in what they have (of beliefs, opinions or customs above all others).

.

3. The Quran shows what you can do for your dad.

All 144 chapters of the Quran except one chapter start with the words "In the name of Allah the most kind the most merciful" meaning Allah calls us to follow the path of kindness and mercy. The chapter that does not start with these words repeats them 8 times inside that chapter.

Your dad prayed 5 times every day because he loves Allah.

No one can love Allah unless Allah has willed it.

Allah willed your dad to love Him and your dad loved Him otherwise your dad would not have prayed 5 times every day to Him.

When Allah created your dad he could not do anything except what Allah had decreed for him and the greatest gift Allah gave him is his love for Allah and for you.

Pray to Allah.

No special words are needed when you talk to Allah asking for forgiveness.

Talk to Allah from your heart and know that Allah will hear everything you want to tell Him.

Allah made this promise to everyone who prays to Him and does good deeds.

Your dad prayed to Allah and your dad did a very good deed in making you who you are today.

Quran 39:53 Verse 39:53 Say, "My (Allah's) servants who have transgressed against themselves, Do not despair of the (thought that you have lost the) mercy of Allah because Allah forgives all sins (if you repent and correct yourself and ask Allah's forgiveness). He (Allah) is forgiving and merciful.

4. The story and the lesson of Sodom.

Allah teaches how people must behave towards strangers when Prophet Abraham Ibrahim gave food to strangers who looked like humans but were angles and again when Prophet Lot Lut offered food and protection to strangers who looked like humans but were angles.

This story is teaching hospitality to strangers in both the Torah Taurat and in the Quran,

Sodom was the first place where instead of giving hospitality strangers were violently attacked.

Homosexual violence where a person sexually attacks a person of the same sex like in Sodom or heterosexual violence where a person sexually attacks a person of the opposite sex are both forbidden.

The Quran and Torah Taurat shows us that instead of giving hospitality to strangers to a city for the first time strangers were sexually attacked using homosexual violence in Sodom.

This means that instead of hospitality to strangers the first time strangers to a city were sexually attacked using heterosexual violence was before Sodom or after Sodom.

Both homosexual violence and heterosexual violence are forbidden.

Allah punished the people of Sodom after they had tried to attack the angels of Allah as proof that they had not only broken the laws protecting humans but they had sinned against Allah by threatening to attack Allah's angels.

Your dad never violently attacked the angels of Allah like the people in Sodom.

The punishment the people in Sodom received was for many different sins of which violently attacking the angels of Allah was only one of the sins against Allah which the people were doing in Sodom.

Humans are not allowed to copy the punishments of Allah.

You can see in hadith stories where people argue about what kind of punishment to give for homosexuality without understanding that this was not the main reason why Allah punished all the men women and children in Sodom except the righteous among the family of Prophet Lot Lut.

Quran 87:19 Verse 87:19 The scriptures of Prophet Abraham Ibrahim and Prophet Moses Musa.

Quran 3:93 Ayah 3:93 "... Say (Prophet Muhammad, to the Jews of Yathrib), "Bring the Torah Taurat here and recite it (to me as evidence) if what you say is true."

What happened in Sodom was for more than homosexuality as explained in the Scriptures of Prophet Abraham Ibrahim which are found in the Torah Taurat.

Torah Genesis 18:24 If there are fifty innocent people in the city, will you destroy the whole city? Won't you spare it in order to save the fifty?

Torah Genesis 18:25 Surely you won't kill the innocent with the guilty. That's impossible! You can't do that. If you did, the innocent would be punished along with the guilty. That is impossible. The judge of all the earth has to act justly."

Torah Genesis 18:26 The Lord (Allah) answered, "If I find fifty innocent people in Sodom, I will spare the whole city for their sake."

Torah Genesis 18:27 Abraham Ibrahim spoke again: "Please forgive my boldness in continuing to speak to you, Lord (Allah). I am only a man and have no right to say anything.

Torah Genesis 18:28 But perhaps there will be only forty-five innocent people instead of fifty. Will you destroy the whole city because there are five too few?" The Lord (Allah) answered, "I will not destroy the city if I find forty-five innocent people."

Torah Genesis 18:29 Abraham Ibrahim spoke again: "Perhaps there will be only forty." He (Allah) replied, "I will not destroy it if there are forty."

Torah Genesis 18:30 Abraham Ibrahim said, "Please don't be angry, Lord (Allah), but I must speak again. What if there are only thirty?" He (Allah) said, "I will not do it if I find thirty."

Torah Genesis 18:31 Abraham Ibrahim said, "Please forgive my boldness in continuing to speak to you, Lord (Allah). Suppose that only twenty are found?" He (Allah) said, "I will not destroy the city if I find twenty."

Torah Genesis 18:32 Abraham Ibrahim said, "Please don't be angry, Lord (Allah), and I will speak only once more. What if only ten are found?" He (Allah) said, "I will not destroy it (the city) if there are ten (innocent people)."

Torah Genesis 18:33 After he had finished speaking with Abraham Ibrahim, the Lord (Allah) went away, and Abraham Ibrahim returned home.

.

When some humans thought this story was only about punishment for homosexuality they did not think why Allah was also punishing women and children in Sodom which shows how humans go astray when they think they have the wisdom of Allah and think they can judge humans like Allah judges humans and think they can destroy a life like Allah can destroy a life.

The idea that the first Muslims did not know this has caused the suggestion that these hadith were invented long after the death of Prophet Muhammad (see in the references below).

Your father was not attacking people and your father was not attacking the angels of Allah.

In this world when one human attacks another human then they have wronged humans and humans can be punished by the laws of humans.

It is in the hereafter that Allah judges who have sinned against Allah so it is not for humans to go over the limits and be the judge of who has sinned against Allah.

Humans can only judge who have wronged humans by breaking human laws and the laws in the Quran for Muslims or in the Torah Taurat for Jews or in the Gospel Injil of Jesus Isa by Mark, Matthew, Luke and John for Christians.

Allah gives every human a life time to find their true belief before their time of natural death.

It is not for one creation to cut short the life of another creation because the purpose of life is for each human to find their true belief and to do good deeds in this world before the Day of Judgement.

5. The judgement of Allah.

You can see the justice and greatness and kindness and mercy of Allah in these revelations which is the promise in the Quran delivered by Prophet Muhammad to everyone in each of the 4 communities of Allah and to all humankind.

Quran 2:62 Verse 2:62 Truly those (Muslims) who believed and those who are Jews, Christians and Sabians, whoever believed in Allah and the Last Day (The Day of Resurrection) and did good deeds, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and they shall not fear or grieve in the hereafter.

Note 1. The Jews who believed in Allah and did good deeds go to Paradise Jannah.
Note 2. The Christians who believed in Allah and did good deeds go to Paradise Jannah.
Note 3. The Sabians who believed in Allah and did good deeds go to Paradise Jannah.
Note 4. The Muslims who believed in Allah and did good deeds go to Paradise Jannah.
Note 5. Everyone who believed in Allah and did good deeds goes to Paradise Jannah.

Note 6. This revelation is so important that Allah has repeated it in Quran 5:69

.

Quran 4:123 Verse 4:123 (Entry to Paradise Jannah) shall not be based on your (the Muslim's) desires or on the desires of the people of the Scripture (the Jews and the Christians). (Instead) whoever does wrong (on the earth) shall earn (the punishment for the wrong) and that person shall not find any protector or helper other than Allah (in the hereafter).
Note 1. Allah will judge Muslims and Christians and Jews and every creation justly in the hereafter.

.

Quran 5:48 Verse 5:48 "... For each (community of Jews, Christians and Muslims) We (Allah) have appointed a divine law and a way (of religion). If Allah willed He (Allah) could have made you (the Jews, the Christians and the Muslims) one community. But He (Allah) tests you (the Jews, the Christians and the Muslims) by what He (Allah) has given you (in the Torah Taurat and the Gospel Injil and the Koran Quran to show who is best in behaviour). So strive for all that is good. To Allah you shall all return and He (Allah) shall then inform you (in the Hereafter) about (the correctness of) the religious matters in which you (the Jews, the Christians and the Muslims) argue among each other.

Note 1. Allah does not require humans to all be in one religion (Quran 5:48).
Note 2. Allah does require that every religion worship only Allah (Quran 3:85).
Note 3. Allah says if the Jews and the Christians and others worship only Allah like the Muslims worship only Allah then the Jews and the Christians and others are correctly guided by Allah (Quran 3:64).
Note 4. Allah commands the Jews, the Christians and the Muslims to do what is good according to what Allah has given them in the Torah Taurat and the Gospel Injil and the Koran Quran to show which humans are the best in behaviour.
Note 5. Allah says that on the Day of Resurrection and Judgement in the hereafter every human will return to Allah and Allah shall inform them about the religious matters about which they argued.

Note 6. Allah protects the Torah Taurat for every Jewish generation until the Day of Judgement (Quran 5:48).
Note 7. Allah protects the Gospel Injil for every Christian generation until the Day of Judgement (Quran 5:48).
Note 8. Allah protects the Koran Quran for every Muslim generation until the Day of Judgement (Quran 5:48).
Note 9. Entry to Paradise the Garden of Eden the Garden of Righteousness Jannah is not based on the question of Sunni or Shia or Muslim or Jew or Christian but it is based on your good behaviour towards all humans and creatures in this world and your relationship with Allah (Quran 5:48).

6. Allah is caring for your dad.

The souls of dead people are alive in the care of Allah until the day they are resurrected on the Day of Judgement in a spiritual body that can feel the reward or punishment that they had earned.

Quran 2:154 Verse 2:154 And do not speak (when delivering news) of those who are killed in the cause of Allah as being "dead", No, they are alive (their soul is alive), but you cannot see them.

.

7. Punishment in the grave.

The stories about punishment in the grave were invented after the death of Prophet Muhammad. Of the hundreds of hadith stories NOT ONE is in the Quran because such a belief is opposite to what Allah is teaching in the Quran.

A. The Quran teaches that death in the grave is like staying in a short sleep.
 1. Quran 2:259 after 100 years in death Prophet Ezra Uzair is resurrected to life and says "I remained (dead sleeping for what feels like) a day or part of a day".

 2. Quran 18:19 after 309 years in sleep the 7 sleepers are resurrected to life and say "We have stayed (maybe for what feels like) a day or part of a day.

.

 B. On the Day of resurrection every human will say

1. Quran 20:103 says "You have stayed ten (hours sleeping in death like the 7 sleepers and Prophet Ezra Uzair described).

 2. Quran 20:104 says "You did not stay for more than one day (sleeping in death like the 7 sleepers and Prophet Ezra Uzair described).

 3. Quran 23:113 says they (the evil doers) shall say, "(It feels like) we stayed a day or part of a day (sleeping in death on the Earth before we were resurrected like the 7 sleepers and Prophet Ezra Uzair described).

 4. Quran 30:55 says the wrong doers shall swear (in the Hereafter) that they only stayed (sleeping in death) for an hour (meaning only one hour had passed since they had died on the Earth like the 7 sleepers and Prophet Ezra Uzair described),

 5. Quran 46:35 says it shall seem to them) as though they had stayed (sleeping for) only one hour of a day (before they were resurrected from death to life on the Day of Resurrection and Judgement like the 7 sleepers and Prophet Ezra Uzair described)

 6. Quran 79:46 On the day they see it (the Day of Resurrection), it shall be as if they (each human) had not stayed (sleeping in death) except for an evening or a morning (like the 7 sleepers and Prophet Ezra Uzair described).

Quran 7:187 says the Hour of the Day of Resurrection "will come suddenly" meaning there will be no warning after death like punishment in the grave otherwise everyone would know that the Day of Resurrection was coming and it would not be a surprise to anyone.

The angel of death will take every soul to the separation or barrier called Barzakh.
Every person will wake up on the Day of Resurrection on a new earth, new land, new ground in the Hereafter and testify that Barzakh felt like nothing but a short sleep in Quran 2:259, 18:19, 18:21, 20:103, 20:104, 23:113, 30:55, 46:35 and 79:46.

Quran 23:99 Verse 23:99 When death comes to one of them (who disbelieved in Allah), he says (in the hereafter on the Day of Resurrection), "My Lord (Allah) send me back (to where I was before I died),"

Quran 23:100 Verse 23:100 "So that I can do what is righteous in what I neglected." However it is only words that they speak (on the Day of Resurrection because on that Day the Earth and the first creation shall not exist except for what has been resurrected so it will be too late for them to change their behaviour) and behind them is a barrier (that does not allow the dead to return to life meaning the soul is in the care of Allah) until the day when they are raised (back to life in the Hereafter).

The angel of death will take every soul to the separation or barrier called Barzakh.

Every person will wake up on the Day of Resurrection on a new earth, new land, new ground in the Hereafter and testify that Barzakh felt like nothing but a short sleep in Quran 2:259, 18:19, 18:21, 20:103, 20:104, 23:113, 30:55, 46:35 and 79:46 so the wicked among them will ask to be returned to the Earth but the Earth will not exist.

Note 1. Humans will not speak to Allah until they are resurrected back to life by Allah.

Note 2. When humans are resurrected back to life it will seem to them that only one hour or ten hours of time had passed between their death and their resurrection as described in Quran 2:259, 18:19, 18:21, 20:103, 20:104, 23:113, 30:55, 46:35 and 79:46 so the wicked among them will ask to be returned to the Earth but the Earth will not exist.

Note 3. Quran 7:187 says the Hour of the Day of Resurrection "will come suddenly" meaning there will be no warning after death like punishment in the grave otherwise everyone would know that the Day of Resurrection was coming and it would not be a surprise to anyone.

Psalm Zabur recited by Prophet David Dawud and Quran 2:259, 18:19, 18:21, 20:103, 20:104, 23:113, 30:55, 46:35 and 79:46 recited by Prophet Muhammad confirm there is no life in the grave and no feeling in the grave and no talking in the grave and no sight in the grave and no voices in the grave and no consciousness in the grave between the time of death and the Day of Resurrection.

Zabur Psalm 6:6 For there is no memory of You (Allah) in death; in the grave, who will thank You (Allah)?

See http://www.chabad.org/library/bi...

Quran 46:35 Verse 46:35 So be patience (Prophet Muhammad) like the steadfast of the messengers (of the past) and do not be impatient (for Allah's punishment to come) to them (the stone idol worshippers of Makkah Arabia). On the Day when they (the stone idol worshippers) see what they were promised (in the Day of Resurrection and Judgement which is decreed, it shall seem to them) as though they had stayed (sleeping for) only one hour of a day (before they were resurrected from death to life on the Day of Resurrection and Judgement). This is a notification (to you so that no one can deny they were not warned that the Day of Resurrection is real). Shall any perish (by losing the mercy of Allah and living forever in Hell Jahannam) except the disobedient people?

Note 1. Prophet Muhammad never taught or believed in punishment in the grave because it is opposite to what Allah is teaching in the Quran where the stone idol worshippers will swear that it feels like only one hour passed between the time they died and the Day of Resurrection.

Please do not think that anything bad is happening to your dad today.

Nothing will happen to anyone until all humans are resurrected at the same time on the Day of Resurrection and Judgement on a new earth meaning a new land in the Hereafter. This is after the first creation has been destroyed including our Earth Sun Moon planets stars and the Universe.

If your parents are divorced, do you ever have an inkling of hope that they'll get back together or do you not care anymore?

No, I didn't. Once they showed the signs of divorce and all that conflict, I didn't think they belonged together as a married couple. It was hard to accept for quite some time. I was just mad at them for bringing my sibs and I into it.Partners raising children together? Sure, they work well together. That doesn't mean
