Are there unethical ways I can come up in life?
Ethic is the vital concept for society to survive. Society is the one living thing made by agreement of individuals. Human promised to survive cooperatively, because in that way a lot more lives can survive even in the beneficial way. Ethic is the least line where we have to cooperate over personal interest.
In that reason, being ethical sometimes sacrifices private benefit. As an easy example, cut in the line then you save your time. However, thanks to others behaving ethical -they don't cut in your line-, as sacrificing their own benefit, you would get benefit out of it. Think, how much energy will consume if everyone tries to cut in the line. Your ethical behaviour might compromise your benefit, yet other's ethical behaviour save your loss, to sum up, behaving ethical all together brings benefit to everyone. - That's how we promise in society.
So if you are living in the unethical way, which is sacrificing social benefit, society will judge and punish you. The life causing social loss, why do they allow it? That's why people are trying to obey social rules sometimes fighting against the natural desire of being selfish. They appreciate other lives as knowing their own life is appreciated too, even though you don't overtime personally feel it.
So, to answer your question, it will be difficult to live in unethical way, since that life will be punished from society. It could be legal punishments or people will not like you, not cooperate or support you, that's also significant punishment damaging you emotionally, financially, in anyway.
Some unethical behaviours get empathised by individuals. Since we all know how selfish we are indeed. However, that forgiving is based on one condition that it was mistake while you are trying to be ethical for good reason.
You must have the reason to doubt the necessity of being ethic. Try to find a way to fulfil your desire in the way respecting the whole system we live together.
No. Only down.
Yes, there are unethical ways to make money - and no, I'm not going to help you figure them out. There are unethical ways to sabotage your coworkers, curry favor with your boss, and so on.
But that's not up. That's down. At least, it is for me.
We all have to live with ourselves for the rest of our lives. I want to like the people I live with. Don't you?
Unethical behavior isn't the way up, even though sometimes it appears so. Emerson discusses this:
Every excess causes a defect; every defect an excess. Every sweet hath its sour; every evil its good. Every faculty which is a receiver of pleasure has an equal penalty put on its abuse. It is to answer for its moderation with its life. For every grain of wit there is a grain of folly. For every thing you have missed, you have gained something else; and for every thing you gain, you lose something. If riches increase, they are increased that use them. If the gatherer gathers too much, nature takes out of the man what she puts into his chest; swells the estate, but kills the owner. Nature hates monopolies and exceptions. The waves of the sea do not more speedily seek a level from their loftiest tossing, than the varieties of condition tend to equalize themselves. There is always some levelling circumstance that puts down the overbearing, the strong, the rich, the fortunate, substantially on the same ground with all others. Is a man too strong and fierce for society, and by temper and position a bad citizen, - a morose ruffian, with a dash of the pirate in him;-- nature sends him a troop of pretty sons and daughters, who are getting along in the dame's classes at the village school, and love and fear for them smooths his grim scowl to courtesy. Thus she contrives to intenerate the granite and felspar, takes the boar out and puts the lamb in, and keeps her balance true.
