How does gas power a car?In my knowledge, all a car needs to run is a continuously to and fro motion of a piston inside the cylinder. This piston movement is further converted into rotary motion with the help of crankshaft which is connected to the flywheel and this entire flywheel unit is connected to the clutch and clutch to the gearbox unit which with the help of several gears takes the power to the wheels I.e. Rotate them.
Now if we go back to the first line "reciprocating motion of a piston", for this very purpose, we use fuel which ignites in the combustion chamber provided between the piston and clylinder when the piston is at top dead centre. If any GAS or say anything, in the present piston cylinder arrangement becomes able to give the very required continuous reciprocating motion to the piston, the piston will transfer this power to the crankshaft and then the same cycle will follow.
I'm a mechanical engineer student, and according to me, ALL WE NEED IS A PISTON MOTION (to and fro) TO RUN A CAR, NO MATTER YOU ONLY GIVE HIGHLY PRESSURISED AIR TO PUSH THE PISTON DOWNWARDS AND TO SUCK THE AIR OUT AT HIGH PRESSURE TO AGAIN PULL BACK TO PISTON TO ITS UPPER POSITION IN THE CYLINDER.
Gas and other substances are being tried only to lower smoke emissions in order to highly bring down the high emission rate from the cars which we are worried about !
