How many grams of animal protein should we take daily for muscle building?

I think 1 g/lb is adequate. I've seen some bodybuilding sites recommend consuming between 300 and 500 grams of protein per day, which is insane and unhealthy. As long as you're consuming a moderate amount of protein (> 0.5 g/lb) then the most important factor is being at a (slight) caloric surplus.

I'm curious as to why you specified animal protein. I don't think whether the protein is plant or animal protein will make a significant difference.
