How many times do bodybuilders eat a day?
It depends. Bodybuilding is such a big tent where you have the recreational bodybuilders guys who never compete but just want to look a certain way, you have the pro and amateur competitors you have fitness and swimsuit competitors and then you have the gym rats who call themselves bodybuilders. So everyones eating schedule is different.. The whole point of eating a lot of meals throughout the day in smaller quantities is because the y are assimilated better by your body and you can time nutrients so there is never a dip in hormones energy or starvation. Eating in one fell swoop or 2 makes for a rough day on your stomach and digestive system. It has to break down all the food and then try to absorb as much of the good stuff as it can before it excretes it. When you eat every 3 hours or so it makes it easier for the body and gets you better gains and nutrition absorption. The meals are smaller, the insulin needed is much less in order to shuttle nutrients to the cells, the amount of food in your gut is less and therefore doesnt need to be digested for 2 hours and so on. You keep a constant supply of nutrients going in and provided they are the right ones and the right amounts you have growth occur when the muscles are worked. Case and point is Thanksgiving when everyone eats so much they almost explode. That horrible feeling you get after you are so full is your body telling you to cut it out. Thats one big giant meal now think when you do that every day twice a day what happens.
I would say a bodybuilder, eats on the average 5–6 meals a day. I know I get in 4–5. Now as a meal I am counting protein shakes, and such. So in the way you might imagine a meal as a sitdown affair with 3 courses a meal here is a protein shake, or a snack consisting of beef jerky and eggs. Doesnt need to be this huge afair.
