Ocean, mountains, or desert? Take your pick! Surf beaches from San Diego to Santa Cruz, and the drive through big sur is great. Get up in the mountains! Yosemite deserves it's reputation. Idlewlyd is great but so much more high country. Get down in the desert, Anza Borrego, Death Valley and more. California is so much more than Hollywood and Venice beach but they are fun too. San Diego and San Francisco shouldn't be missed. If you do make it to San Francisco, don't miss going across the GG Bridge and the towns on the north side. So many different things to se and do you can take your pick and enjoy the trip,
Ok. It is the third largest state after AK and TX. So I don't know how much time you have and how you are getting around. But my suggestions would be such places as the desert, particularly Death Valley this time of year, much cooler and possibly some great flower blooms if there have been any rains; any part of the coast, especially from Santa Barbara north to Oregon (Carmel, Monterey and Bodega Bay are some specific areas); Muir Woods and a little known redwood area in the Oakland ( yes. Oakland) area. The High Sierras in winter, but could be a lot snow, making it difficult, check out before you do that for safety reasons. Those are a few.
Ocean, Mission, and Pacific beach located in San Diego, California.
