Is artificial intelligence possible?
Yes, It is possible. Presently we have achieved a primitive level of Artificial Intelligence(AI). At present, many AI tools has come up. Most of the people are confused about the artificial intelligence . In nature ,intelligence is property available to living organism for it's survival. Human intelligence more advanced than animal intelligence because man live collectively as group and create knowledge through their observation, experimentation and verification method and share back our knowledge to entire humanity. Every day human uses hundreds of knowledges which created by the past society. An individual also contribute to this treasure of knowledge through his learning. Yes, this is what it is happening presently. We are entered in to the era of open source society. Sharing knowledge was made possible through Internet and open source. So the sharing of knowledge is the pre condition for the growth of AI society.
On machine, the intelligence is used when it needs to come out of problem , evolving out of any process. So machine used for artificial learning to solve the newer problems. If we take short look at AI, the AI can be classified in to two part. ie Machine learning and Artificial intelligence(AI).
1) Machine learning :
It involves the following procedure. We convert the raw Data in to Information , then convert the information in to ideas and the ideas to be converted to knowlede which the raw meterial for AI . This has done through many tools like Tensor Flow ,DSSTNE ( Deep Scalable Sparse Tensor Network Engine), Watson ,Deep learning, Weka, Waffles etc.
AI can be said as an application of knowledge by machine created either by machine learning or by human . When the system or a process enter in to a problem, it will try to solve the problem using this knowledge and try to arrive in a solution after analysising of situation.
This process needs a larger computational ability. When human make this process simple, we can say that man has entered in to the era of Artificial Intelligence or AI society.
Yes. Our intelligence is an emergent properly of an electromechanical system-our brain. If nature can produce an intelligent brain, we can produce an intelligent brain. There is no magic involved, and we already have a handle on much of what it invovled.
The only question is, what will that brain look like, what will it value, and how will it be motivated?
A great deal has been written about an AI "singularity" after which humans will port their minds into machines to achieve immortality, or machines will conquer the Earth, or machines will become the new slaves of mankind.
None of these is particularly likely, because none addresses the fundamental consequence of our own intelligence having an evolved biologic origin.
We humans want things, things that any meerkat or parakeet would understand. We want food, sex, survival, etc. And that affects everything else we want-a condo overlooking Central Park, political power, peer recognition, to walk on the face of the moon.
Much of what we want is just the same urge to procreate and survive that any common worm has, embroidered by our complex experience. But machines have no such drives, unless we provide them.
So, if we give our AIs a human like drive to procreate, conquer, and survive, they will dispatch our species with haste. If we don't, they will likely commit suicide just as fast as we can make them-relegated as they will be to purely intellectual means of determining meaning and self worth.
Neither of these are useful to us humans. What we really want are willing slaves. But a truly willing slave is not a slave at all.
When we look back in to 15,20 years and find out what is meant by "AI", it's different than what we define as AI today. Most things called "AI" in the past are nothing more than some advanced programming tricks. Because the programmer is the one who is supplying all the instructions, patterns to create intelligence to the system by programming. So it is not really an Artificial Intelligence. It's "just a program".
But computer scientists always believed it's possible. So followed various mechanisms to reach there. Under current circumstances, they believe Machine Learning (ML) is the true path to AI.
Machine Learning technique called Deep Learning has begun to give satisfactory results in AI problems. And these programs can move from one problem domain to another with very few changes to the core. That is what generally prefer as Artificial General Intelligence. As a trend, many computer science organizations and researching organizations are involving to create new knowledge in ML with the expectation to achieve AI.
When considering Deep Learning, there are two areas as Supervised Deep Learning and Unsupervised Deep Learning. Unsupervised Deep Learning is much harder to achieve. But under present circumstances, computer scientists believe AI is possible through Unsupervised Deep Learning. Although the hope was always there, it hasn't yet achieved or come to a satisfactory level.
Artifcial Intelligence already exists. Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) exists in pieces. Question answering (a la the machine HAL in 2001 a Space Odyssey") is what we generally consider to be AGI. The Cyc Project (from Cycorp) is the closest known system to what we would consider AGI. A close second is the Watson question answering system from IBM. A system I would put third in the category is JCB (from Linker Systems) which is a generative chatbot with the ability to schedule or perform actions in response to user input.
A second category of AGI is non-verbal learning systems. These are systems that learn from their environment. These systems are motivated by defined intrinsic needs that must be satisfied. Deep Mind is currently prototyping such systems which combine neural networks with reinforcement learning. In the near future, when DeepMind's deep reinforcement systems compute their reinforcement signals internally and intrinsically from their internal state, rather than receiving reinforcement values externally and directly from the environment or from a teacher, then I would categorize them as AGI.
My own effort is a hybrid approach you can read about, Building Minds with Patterns (DRAFT), which combines low level input from devices with high level heuristic rules to build a world model in the manner in which a child learns from its environment.
Whether artificial general intelligence is possible ultimately depends on who you ask.

Is artificial intelligence possible ? Is artificial intelligence better then human intelligence ? These are questions that have intrigued individuals all across the world . As a Computer Engineer I believe that Artificial intelligence is partially possible because every computer program depends on an algorithm . Now an Artificial Intelligence system is supposed to create it's own algorithms in order to get complex problem solved but even then there will be some predefined steps which a Computer will have to follow in order to achieve it's solution and formulate a new algorithm . Given that human beings are the creator of the fundamental algorithm based on which the Artificial intelligence system will work hence I have concluded that Artificial Intelligence is partially possible . But in the long run if the fundamental algorithms are lost then these systems will pose a big challenge to human intelligence as humans won't be able to decipher the working of an AI system without understanding it's fundamental algorithms . The answer to the question 'If Artificial Intelligence is better and will surpass human intelligence ?' is a big 'NO' . Human intelligence is superior to artificial intelligence as it's not a programmed intelligence unlike AI systems which are programmed .
Yes it is. Artificial intelligence is nothing but a logic that works for alot of conditions . Our mind is also programmed and that works on the basis of logics defined in this . Similarly we can define logics (artificial intelligence) in our program to cover maximum conditions .....
