What are some good places to visit near Edinburgh, Scotland?

My favourite place near Edinburgh is Rosslyn Chapel, Castle and glen. Its beautiful there and SO worth going to see!

Craigmillar Castle is also avery historic place to go see. And one of the loveliest places near Edinburgh is Gosford House along the coast from Edinburgh which is only open to the public in August each year - or thats how it used to be.

The have the Alabaster Hall there which has been used in films and it is pretty spectacular. It also boasted the first concrete outside staircase which as far as I know is still in existence.

I used to know a very old guy who knew everything there was to know about interesting places and things and he used to tell me that Gosford House had an atrium in the middle of the house that had fountains in it that could go as high as the roof.

I can't quite remember how tall the House it but it must be four flights high. You can't see this bit of the house because the owners, Lord and Lady Weyms couldn't afford to renovate the whole building and everything outwith the Alabaster hall is derelict.

And thats a real shame cos I would imagine that it must have been a truly spectacular place in its day!

So those are just three places to visit near Edinburgh but it depends what your looking for. Theres also the Pentland hills which are beautiful and interesting places like Culross across the Forth and Dunfermline Abby.

Just getting outwith the city borders opens up loads of possibilities! ;-}
