When you feel sad, what cheers you up?

Obedience and good deeds cheers us up.

The guidelines of God as taught by all prophets are:

‘Blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience'

Qur'an verse 7:96 confirms the ‘blessings for obedience and the curses for disobedience' – that is similar to the teachings of Moses, David, Solomon, Isaiah, Jesus, and other prophets

And if the people of the towns had believed and kept from evil, surely We should have opened for them blessings from the sky and from the earth; but they rejected (the truth) and We seized them on account of what they used to earn.

Isaiah 58:6-11

"Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?

Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter - when you see the naked, to clothe them,

and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

Then your light will break forth like the dawn,

and your healing will quickly appear;

then your righteousness will go before you,

and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;

and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry

and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,

and will strengthen your frame.

You will be like a well-watered garden,

like a spring whose waters never fail

We have been ordered to follow such wisdom; if we do, we can transform earth into a paradise

Going to the flashback.

Months before when I was in college completing my last sem of my engineering, whenever I felt sad which was quite often nicotine, marijuana and alcohol used to cheer me up. I enjoyed after having these whenever I am low. For the time being it worked or else I used to sleep but what about the time after I wake up.

Coming back to the current situation, things have changed. Now whenever I am low , talking to my friends, writing blogs or answering questions in quora and reading some psychology books cheers me up.

What I am implying here is the things I did earlier was temporary. Never let yourself get cheered up by those things. Those things will give you short term relieve and is not good in the long run.
