With the sad passing of Stan Lee, will the studios continue his famous cameos in future Marvel movies via CGI?
He's almost definitely already got a cameo filmed for Avengers 4, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's filmed one for Spider-Man: Far From Home, so we'll probably still see him act in at least one more movie, maybe 2. Or 3 if he's also in Captain Marvel.
But beyond that, I really hope they don't CGI him in like they did with Peter Cushing/Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One. The uncanny valley made it an uncomfortable experience, on top of it being kind of creepy.
I feel like it would be kind of disrespectful as well. Just speaking for myself, I wouldn't want to be turning into a CGI mask for some actor to wear after I'm dead, and I can't imagine many people would.
Maybe I'm wrong, maybe Stan Lee would be cool with it, but unless he explicitly stated that he wants it to happen, I feel like they'd be better off not doing it.
But that doesn't mean Stan Lee cameos should disappear forever, it's just the nature of them that should change. It's something they've already done in Deadpool 2 and Big Hero 6. They can still show us Stan The Man, even if he isn't acting in the movie.
